OTR Campaign Project Reports

For this blog post, we would like each OTR Campaign Project group to write up a report of their current plans, based on meetings in class thus far. We would like the report to cover the following: 1) Provide an account of the group’s plans and the project’s purpose; 2) Explain the expected learning outcomes for the student group, as well as for the community members, or audiences, that the project will be engaging. What do you as students expect to learn through this engagement with the community? What do you hope the community learns through engagement with your project? Only one member of your group needs to post the report. The report should be about 200 words. Please post before our next class meeting, October 23rd.

Blog Discussion #2

During our last class meeting we shared projects that past classes have done for their OTR Campaign Project. These projects included the OTR People's Movement Timeline and class 'zines. In addition, we described other projects students did in the past. We also showed you the OTR tour book that has recently been published and asked if there was any interest in deriving a project from that. Finally, we gave you time to go out into the neighborhood and pay attention to what you observed, in the hopes that you gain some insight into the community. For this blog discussion, we would like you to share your thoughts regarding past OTR Campaign Projects that students have done, and/or any ideas you might have at this time for a project. Has reviewing any of the past OTR Campaign Projects sparked any ideas for you? Has spending some time observing and interacting in the neighborhood helped you come up with any ideas? Early on in the semester it is worthwhile to consider your reactions to what you are learning about OTR. What issues in OTR do you find most intriguing to explore and why? As a class, what do we have to gain through our future inquiries into OTR? Who might directly benefit from our work in the neighborhood? Keep in mind that any of your responses to these questions are bound to be tentative and open to revision. Indeed, there remains a lot of learning to do. However, as a class, it is still good to do an inventory of our various perspectives in preparation for any class project we decide to initiate in the future. Please post a 50-100 word comment. This Class Blog is for NKU and Miami students in Designing/Writing for Social Change, a course being team-taught by professors Chris Wilkey, Tom Dutton, and Alice Skirtz during the Fall, 2013 semester. Throughout the semester, we will ask students to post informal writings to prompts onto this Class Blog. The prompts are designed to spark discussion among students, and student responses will often be used to coordinate class discussion for upcoming class meetings. In addition, students are encouraged to post any material that is relevant to the course that they wish to share with their classmates.
